    This is one of the two reasons why car ignitions are designed so that
    when you turn the key to the start position, the accessories are
    disconnected and only the circuits necessary to actually start the car
    are left with power. Since the computer must be running for the car to
    start, it must be really forgiving of voltage variations and really well
    shielded from the spikes. The other reason to disconnect unnecessary
    loads of course is to devote the available battery power to the starter.
