The first sign for me is a really *nasty* headache (which I do not as a
rule get). And of course tachypnea, nausea, (people start throwing up),
weakness, dizziness confusion, hallucinations, angina, syncope, cyanosis
(blue lips/fingernails) etc are other symptoms.

There was an in the Aug/Sept USAA magazine (auto insurance) about two
deaths from a houseboat in Lake Powell. Apparently they turned on the
genset, and the CO gathered under the swim platform. The boys swimming off
the platform were killed. Apparently CO has killed 9 people over the last
6 years and more than 100 others have been poisoned since 1991 JUST in Lake
Powell. During tests, 30,000 ppm were found under a swim platform and
10,000 ppm ON the swim platform. This is at least in part because swim
platforms have become solid rather than being partial or grid type.

Recommendations were - don't confuse CO poisoning with seasickness or
intoxication. Remove a person with headache, nausea, weakness or dizziness
to fresh air and seek medical attention.
    - Keep forward facing hatches open even in inclement weather to allow fresh
air to circulate in each accommodation area.
    - Install a CO detector in each accommodation area and check them
    periodically
    - Schedule regular engine and exhaust maintenance/inspections

We have bought CO detectors of the new marine type. I'd still like to know
how the new marine standard is different from the old standard.
