Hi all!
Here is the promised report about copper head gaskets. We did it on two
diesels - both rated 30-40HP, 3 cylinder, long-stroke, naturally aspirated
iron gennies.
It was a simple, cheap affair, and it worked. My diesel is still out of
commission (need to overhaul piston rings, possibly replace one cylinder
liner), but that is not going to be a terribly big problem (knocking on the
wood as I'm writing). The other one is up and running fine.
We did use a very thin laye of high temperature Locktite gasket goo (they
call it red silicone, methinks) to improve sealing.
Caveat - have yet to see how long it will survive. But even if it is mere
100 hours, it still makes perfect sense for my circumstances.
