I figured out that with the use of sheet stoppers I can make one electric winch mounted on a pedestal directly in front of the pedestal/binnacle do all the halyards and sheets on my 37C. The motor for the winch would be in front of (3 to 4") the compass and 2 to 3" below the compass. I know because of the permanent magnets in the motor and the mass of metals some compensation will have to be done to the compass. Do you all think that the compass can be compensated with all that stuff so close. Also what happens to the magnatism when the winch is actually running?
I talked to a techie at Lewmar and he said because the motor was not on the same plain as the compass "no problem". At $3000.00+ I'm seeking other opinions.
