    I must agree with Norm
I rarely hear any signal even here it busy port of Philly or on the
delaware which is heavy with ocean going tankers. Leaving dock or
backing is hear but occasionally one hears the mighty FIVE BLAST and we
then know there is an idiot out wait to become fish bait.

Few if any whistles are given for passing on this river or any other.
If there is room to pass they do it and the overtaken vessel must deal
with the wake. Small boats do get a good bounce from passing wake as do
the docks along the river. The GC rules that the river has no speed
restriction and there are not any no wake rules on the river. Of
course, we all know that we are responsible for our wake but guess what
    - When a piloted south american tanker went down the river and put 38
foot boats up on the docks there never was a citation. Also no one ever
knew that the vessel had gone down the river. They cant even find the
pilot which is required and sent from the maritime exchange.
