    If you are not interested in removing the connection you can do as I do. My
    Bruce anchor has a fork and eye swivel connected with the fork end on the
    anchor. The chain connects to the eye end with a master link, the type that
    has two identical halves that connect together by peening over four tits.
    These links are available from Jamestown if you cannot fine them locally.

    But actually, I believe a properly made shackle is as strong as the same
    chain size. I see the brand "Crosby" used a lot in industry.
