A friend, Capt Ron, has told me he broke a shackle during the "Storm of the
Century" in Key West. I'm guessing his chain was 5/8" or 3/4", I know the
anchor was a danforth type and the boat a 86' Trumpy motorsailer, ketch
rigged. He had rigged two nylon rodes to a heavy mooring before the storm
and that that saved his vessel.

Personally, I don't buy Chinese products if I can help it, and never if I
    have to depend on it.

Whenever I come across the Crosby brand, I buy a sackfull of shackles.
