This is only if the tanks are overfilled and the liquid has no place to go.
The pressure in the tanks is dependent only on temperature as long as there
is some gas in them. I have had tanks sitting in direct sunlight in the
tropics and not valve off any propane if they are not overfilled.
The new valves with the floats on them are supposed to prevent overfilling so
now the tanks should never valve off any propane.
The exception is in a fire when the temperature will be so high that gas will
vent. Given the small size of the vents, the tank will probably blow up
anyway from overpressure because the gas cannot get out fast enough.
