I'm curious how big a problem this is.

Has anyone on the list ever broken a chain or shackle?

If so, what were the conditions?

What size chain and shackle was it, what size boat was it and what
    condition was the chain in?

I've read many concerns about chain type and shackles over the years but
never heard of anyone having either break. Let's hear the real story. Are
there any first hand accounts we can learnn from?
