Last year, when I helped Louise Shekter sail "Escapade" from Fort Pierce to
Toronto, I at first scoffed at the scarcity of floating docks all the way
along the Eastern seaboard and the ICW. Louise patiently taught me about
hurricanes, and I learned how to put lines on pilings (we had a wonderful
tutorial by some folk at the Elizabeth City Rose Buddies party on how to
coil and throw docking lines). I guess poorly-built floating docks and big
storms just don't go well together.
I thought marinas throw everybody out before hurricanes ... I guess this
wasn't a true hurricane.
