I agree with most of what Tom says, but even if you think you get a Bruce
set in grass you may be in trouble. Twice our Bruce seemed to be set when
in grass (and not that much grass, either), but when a little wind came up
it pulled a bit through the grass. As it did, the thing filled with weeds,
roots, etc, until it had no hold at all. It was more like a rake when
raking your yard.
In both cases I put out my fisherman and it held fine. In my opinion, the
fisherman is really the only one to trust in grass.
I do feel, from my experience, that the Bruce will set much easier than a
CQR.
Tests seems to indicate that the CQR has more holding power than a similar
Bruce, but the forces being tested where way up in the range where other
things were going to break first anyway. If one holds 10,000lb. pull, the
other 12,000 lb, who cares? (I just made those numbers up, but do you see
the point?)
Again, just my opinion from my experiences.
