I'm in the middle of reading Tom Neal's book about cruising. He's been full
time cruising and living aboard for about 15 years. He has a lot of
practical advice garnered from all these years cruising the East Coast and
the Islands. He is opposed to a 2-anchor set up for several reasons. For
one thing, as he points out, if you're weathering out a storm, as it passes
there will be a 180 deg wind shift. The result will be either one anchor
pulling out or sailing in circles around them resulting in one hell of a
twist. He's also not particularly fond of a Bahamian moor, unless all the
other boats are anchored likewise. If you're not far enough away from
everybody then when they swing and you don't you'll probably get it, and
probably at 4 in the morning.

If you've got to hunker down in a blow, stay with the huge Fortress or the
75# Danforth. But use an all chain road with a good strong snubber attached
to take up any jolts. And make sure it's strongly secured. Tied to your
windless isn't necessarily the best idea unless you know for sure how the
windless is backed and how strongly. He's seen more than one windless
pulled from it's mount resulting in a hell of a fur ball for the skipper
until he got another anchor set up.
