    Hey--

I'm not particularly electronics literate and I've unsuccessfully been
trying to get my GPS/ laptop (w/ chart software) to communicate via nmea to
my Furuno radar. The idea is to put a waypoint "lollipop" (named for it's
shape--a range/ bearing line on the radar screen (the stick) from the center
of the radar, or boat's current position as represented on the radar, to the
position of a hypothetical waypoint, as informed by the GPS/ laptop combo,
which is marked with a circle (the candy), that will theoretically overlay
the actual waypoint, say a bouy or other physical object), as well as other
navigation data such as velocity made good, track, lat/ lon, onto the radar
from the GPS/ laptop. Why am I interested in doing this? Because the radar
monitor being waterproof is mounted at the helm while the laptop which is
hydrophobic remains down below fed information by a remote GPS antenna/
receiver. Obviously, this makes for difficulty when sailing singlehanded.
My question to the list then is does the present discussion have any
relevance to my problem, and what might I do to solve the problem? I am
told that what I'm hoping to do is possible but to date Furuno has been
unhelpful with regard to why I'm having trouble or possible solutions to the
    problem.

    Many thanks,

    Ari
