What works best? I did not notice the blood stains until a week after I bled
on the sail, so the blood has been there for a week now.

As a professional flooring inspector I am often asked what takes blood off synthetic carpet fibers. I usually recommend trying plain old water on a white cloth and dab gently so as not to spread the spot. because of the courseness of woven sail cloth a toothbrush used very carefully might help. Add a mild detergent next if plan water doesn't work. Use the same method - white cloth and dab. Do not flood area at anytime. Failing that go to a hardware store and find a enyzme or protein remover. Follow directions on the container very closely.

The following two suggestions are often employed. Add more blood, draw a face and name it, like Wilson:>). Failing that use scissors:>(
