     Err... Bob, wait a sec... I think, in case of a gasket, you want it SOFT,
     not hardened. Iirc, if you want a metal to become soft and maleable, you
     heat it and then cool SLOWLY, not rapidly.
     
     By the way, I've ordered a set of copper gaskets today. From a 70 years old
     coppersmith, who did the job many times :) At a silly price of USD22 for the
     whole set (3 cylinder 33 HP diesel). For comparison, manufacturer's price
     (if I ever find original parts) would be about 120 usd. I figure, even if
     they last for just 20 hours, it is still a feasible temporary solution :)

    I'm no first-hand expert, but the literature indicates that copper is
    annealed differently from other metals. Bob is correct that it should be
    cooled SLOWLY (i.e. doused with cold water).
