          Well, yes, always best to treat bloodstains when they are fresh.
    Also depends on the fabric...cotton is more likely to hold a stain than
    say, dacron or nylon, or the blends...but fresh bloodstains, cold water
    and plenty of it (if it's just a little spot, enzymes in human saliva will
    keep it from setting, and you can wash it out later)...for dried blood,
    the mildest would be 3% hydrogen peroxide (like what you use for wound
    dressing). For the really stubborn stuff, sodium metabisulfite, also known
    as Rust-Out or Whink (in laundry supplies section)...that is what
    hospitals use. Test for colorfastness in inconspicuous place.
