REgarding catamarans in beam seas-cats with retractable boards DOWN can
be in big touble in beam seas. The shallow draft cats and cats with
boards up tend to slide with the wave instead of capsizing. This is
specially evident in heavily aerated seas. Cats have been know to surf
sideways rather than capsize. One area that many of the older, less
efficient to windward designs prove safer.
