I have a friend who simply hooked up a propane bottle, with regulator, to an
alcohol stove. It sat on the floor beside the stove and was shut off by the
tank valve when the stove was off. Worked pretty good, I had several meals
cooked on it. Only problem he had was that it blackened his pots when he
turned it up too high.
I would not use an alcohol as a fuel on a boat. I have read that it is the
biggest cause of boat fires. The last time I was on a boat with an alcohol
stove I got an instant headache, like a c-clamp was tightening on my head. I
had to go on deck whenever the stove was fired up.
Propane is the most popular stove fuel on boats I have been on.
