MEK is a known carcinogen.
I don't think it's good to breathe in that case. Also, if you get MEK on
your unprotected skin it is very possible and most likely that the MEK will
be absorbed in your body through you skin.
I used to work with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) before it was a "known"
carcinogen. Back then I think it was highly suspect but the body count
wasn't in yet. Most likely MEK affects the liver and kidneys for sure along
with some other important organs.
Protect yourself with gloves at least and only use in a very open
atmosphere.
Also, MEK is highly flammable and the vapors will ignite from a spark if
concentrated enough. I know of at least one case where MEK was used inside
of an aircraft undergoing repairs in the fuselage where it did ignite and
killed a worker. When MEK or any other explosive vapor ignites and burns
oxygen, it also will burn the oxygen in your LUNGS which is usually fatal.

Subject: lv-ab: Atomic 4 impeller and stove fuel
Is there a generic water pump impeller for Atomic 4 (1976) that can be
purchased from marine chain stores? If so, what is the part number?
What fuels can be used in non pressure alcohol stoves? I have used paint
store alcohol, can I use 91% drug store alcohol, 99% isopropyl dry gas or
80% methanol dry gas? Does anything cook faster? The paint store alcohol
contained MEK, is that good to breathe?
The Bristol 32 "Niche" has a new barrier coated bottom and should be in
the water by weekend! The trip home is about 50 miles from Geneva NY
through the Seneca-Cayuga canal then the length of Cayuga Lake to Ithaca.
