I had my first experience at a boatyard recently. I did my own sanding &
bottom painting, but I had 3 specific services I asked the yard to
do/provide.
When I was hauled, the same clerk who I made my appointment with was there. I
reiterated what I was expecting to have done. He made no comment.
After 2 days on the hard with no mechanics or riggers to be seen, I found the
service manager and asked when they were going to work on my boat. He said
there was no work order for me, that I was there only to DIY bottom paint.
To shorten the tale, I got into 2 arguments with the owner, and received no
satisfaction. He called me a liar and said to contact his lawyer.
I have an appointment with another yard set up for next week. This yard &
management come highly recommended. It is about an hour and 1/2 away, whereas
the first yard was less than 5 minutes away.
It just burns me up that I will have to pay for another haul & launch because
a clerk lied to CHA. The only positive note is that anyone I've talked to
about the yard I'll be going to has given it high praise.
Live & learn, I guess. I won't say the name of the 'bad' yard here but if
anyone is in or near Baltimore & would like to know, please contact me
directly.
