Totally agree. Cruising under power is not necessarily right for
everyone. There are both pros and cons to power cruising when compared
to cruising under sail. However, cruising in an efficient true trawler
can provide some benefits not afforded by sailing. For those cruisers
who might be interested in the trawler lifestyle and how to pick the
right trawler, I would recommend two books: Voyaging Under Power by
Beebe/Leischman and The Troller Book by George Buehler. Buehler makes a
compelling argument (he designs both sail boats and true trawlers) that
cruising under power in the right boat is less expensive than cruising
under sail. I don't want to get into that argument on this List. If you
have any interest, read the book and decide for yourself.
