I'm trying to "noodle" out a solution to a problem. Can someone help?
I have 2 banks of house batteries. Each bank consists of 2 batteries in
parallel.
When I turned on my battery changer this morning, I heard a loud buzzing
sound, and a minute later the circuit breaker to bank # 1 clicked off.
While charging, bank #1 reads 14.2 volts, and bank #2 reads 14.1 but the
amps are too high on the failing bank. (bank #2 reads 4 AMPS, but bank #2
(the failing bank) reads 45 AMPS [no wonder the circuit breaker is shutting
down]. My questions are why would new batteries (1 year old) be causing
the circuit breaker to shut off and what is it about the charging mechanism
that has 45 AMPS showing instead of 4? Also - what is buzzing ? I can't seem
to isolate the sound (probably because I'm afraid to put my head into the
electrical panel and my ear too close to the circuit breaker)
Thanks,
_Mike
