    Good idea - where did you see this device? When sailing, I usually
    drag a 100 ft floating line with a monkey's fist on the end for
    safety. I can pretty well tell what speed I'm doing just by the way
    the line behaves (how far it's out of the water, how much turbulence
    it and the monkey's fist create etc)
