Our Westy, now 11 years old, always goes on shore. When we are anchored
out several thing ready her for the trip to shore. First if she really
has to go (or wants get off the boat) she will walk up to us and scratch
the bed, couch or our leg to indicate time to go Daddy (or Mommy). Next
we put the life jacket on her, put her on the swim platform and she
swims to shore. After the sociable exploration she swims back to the
boat and barks to let us know she want back aboard. We pick her up and
in no time she is dry. When it is cold we generally just put her on
shore and she come back when she is done. Once in the morning and once
in the evening.
When we go ashore to a doggy walking area she gets the idea real fast
but other times there may be not markings for her to scent. Like a
parking lot. Then we have to coax her by telling her "peepee, cococka
Crystal". A minute later we are ready to head back to the boat.
