    Deborah -

Briefly, I'm the person to whom the "C....P....F..." comment was directed - but although I saw it as a little raw in today's climate, I also took it as a good-natured jibing reference to the TV show itself.

One of the tragedies of words is that as the world changes so also does their referential context - leaving confusion behind.

So, in the sender's context three ugly, fighting, slanders where really gentle self-referntial humor.

Or at least I hope this was the case....

    Cheers

      Dear List Owner:
I can't believe I have to write this email.
      I'm on several mailing lists.
This is the first list I've ever seen where I've seen truly offensive
remarks. And I've been on this list less than 2 weeks. Is it always like
this? What happened to common courtesy for others?

Last week someone actually used the word "asshole". And to top it off, they
used it in reference to members of our USCG. Today, someone used the term
      "commie, pinko fag".

Does this list tolerate profanity on the list and disparaging remarks towards
members of our police, USCG and homosexuals? Who/What will be next?
Remember, the "purpose of this list is to be a forum for communication among
people living aboard and those who are thinking about it or are interested".
When I joined the list, I received an email that stated "NB: Persons sending
... abusive expressions will be removed from the list and blocked. ...This
list is meant to provide information needed by people living in boats, not to
be a vehicle for political and ideological debates or invective." Why are
      "abusive expressions" tolerated?

I was very excited about the prospects of being a part of this list, but
these people are using poor judgement. When I read comments like that, it
makes me wonder if this list isn't made up of paranoid, ignorant, bigoted and
      just plain mean people.

Please don't suggest that I should leave the list if I don't like it. Those
of us who are concerned and offended shouldn't have to leave. I'm writing
this to try and change the list for the better.

      Respectfully,
      Deborah
      A concerned list member
