You *can* still get new batteries for these phones. I don't use the phone just for emergencies though. So the airline rates would be a problem for me.

Isn't the beauty or rather utility of a bag phone or any big old analog
phone in the fact that 911 works without having a service contract. You can
also make calls using a credit card, but the rates are like the airphone
rates or rather high.
