This brought up a lively discussion at a meeting today at the Coast Guard
yard. (Not the topic of the meeting, but a slight diversion.) I talked with
several electricians who say the CG doesn't use tinned wire or strictly
marine grade wire and that they use electrical tape on connections as well
as the liquid stuff used to seal wires. Interesting enough, the
Congressional Federal Register (CFR) also includes requirements which Calder
and ABYC put into books they 'author'. What I surmised from the discussions
is one point, the connections need to be good and good is open to
interpretation by am OHM meter. mike

Me too. By the time I went to work at Simmonds Precision in 1965, I had
built
hundreds of electronics "projects."
They told me I'd have to attend "soldering school" and pass successfully in
order to be hired. I laughed and told them I already knew how to do that and
could probably teach it myself. I was *very* wrong.
