lv-ab: Slotted vs. Phillips Screws

    I actually had a hardware clerk get angry with me because I wanted slotted
    screws.

    The advantage of slotted screws are that you can apply more torque (with a
    not-worn-out screwdriver blade) than you can with a Phillips. I can twist
    off a slotted screw head easily, but usually the Phillips screwdriver will
    cam out first.

    I understand that the Phillips were developed for use in car interiors
    because when the screwdriver slipped, the point would stay in the screw head
    and not slip off to damage the surrounding expensive car interior as it would
    with a slotted screw.
